Make Summertime Sewing Time

Summer is one of my favorite times of the year. There's nothing better than spending the day outside enjoying the great outdoors. Unfortunately, summer also means a lull in my sewing activities. Who wants to be inside sewing on a beautiful sunny day?

This year I resolved to change that, so this issue of Sew Simple is jam packed with fun summer projects. If you’re throwing a party, stitch up some colorful drink umbrellas (page 60). Create a mesh tote bag for your trip to the beach (page 90). Dress up your patio furniture with chair covers (page 68). And always have fresh flowers on display when you make them out of fabric (page 70).

As for your summer wardrobe, keeping cool without being a fashion disaster is important. The comfy fabric headbands on page 48 keep your hair out of your face while you enjoy the summer breezes. A flirty sundress shows off your tan (page 34). And a hip new handbag accessorizes any outfit (page 94).

Whether your idea of a perfect summer day is spent soaking up the rays or enjoying the cool breeze of an air conditioner, make sewing part of your summer plans with these fun projects. Think of them as a vacation from the ordinary!
