I don't know if there's something in the air, but lately I've been getting a lot of requests from friends to do little sewing jobs, such as sewing on buttons. While I don’t mind doing this at all, after so many requests, I've decided to empower my friends and teach them how to fix things themselves.
I'm sure every seamstress out there can relate. Whether you're being asked to fix a button, hem a pair of pants or do something more labor intensive, sewing skills are in high demand. So instead of just agreeing to do the job and then muttering to yourself about how easy it is, teach your friend how to fix the button. Trust me, she'll thank you. And she'll feel so empowered.
Once she's sewn a few buttons, then you can gently move her on to other projects. You'll find great ones in Sew Simple that are perfect for beginners. Even if you’re just dressing up a purchased T-shirt, easing a beginner into sewing can be really fun and surprisingly easy!
So the next time someone asks you to fix a button or a hem, say no. Then teach her how to do it. You'll be well on your way to creating a budding seamstress.
